Amtrac

Born and raised in a small town in eastern Kentucky, Caleb Cornett spent much of his childhood banging on his small keyboard and strumming his first notes on guitar. It was then that he realized he had found his niche, his own form of self-expression.

Amtrac

A decade later, 23 year old Caleb is now known to the world as Amtrac, a musical pioneer on the forefront of USA’s exploding dance music scene. Kentucky’s own dance music star has been a trailblazer for electronic music in his region, and amuses large crowds from the stage with his talent.

Now breaking onto the festival circuit, he is traveling the nation and receiving worldwide recognition. Based in Miami, you can find Amtrac making music full time and lighting up dance floors and festival stages coast to coast. You can listen to his work here or here. Also, I would suggest listening to his fresh release, Came Along.

Mimosa

Blissfully unconcerned with a world obsessed with categorization as a means of definition, Tigran Mkhitaryan crafts music for its own sake, defying expectations with genre bending soundscapes. Hailing from San Francisco and currently residing in Los Angeles, he began producing at the tender age of 17. Blessed with an abundance of talent and an ear for sonic experimentation, this guy has quickly developed a name for himself.

Mimosa

Ever ambitious and constantly in search of new avenues to explore, Mimosa recently formed his own record label, False Idol Musik. Thus far, the results have been staggering. The tracks are rare and beautiful, full spectrum sonic brushstrokes hovering in the ether. Mimosa's trademark sound is a clash between beautiful swirling synths, hiphop inspired piano hooks, beats and an excellent use of bass drops. Tigran's fresh release called Sanctuary works as one cohesive whole piece of work that finds him immersed in rhythm, encompassing and centered around something deep. However the album carries an authenticity by which his aesthetic appreciation of the origin of sound is fused with layers of various styles and textures. You should definitely listen to Sanctuary, which clearly constitutes the concept of high quality electronic music.

“I’m steering away from aggressive tones, but at the same time trying to find different avenues to get the same crowd response that a big bass drop would get.” He says. I agree with the audience complaining about dubstep going way too simple, bass-oriented and mainstream, so I appreciate this statement. You can get informed about Tigran on his website.

It’s clear that his versatility as an artist goes hand in hand with his refusal to be tied down by any particular sound or style. I’ll say it again, because it bears repeating, Mimosa has rare values worth listening to.

Bassnectar: Vava Voom

Lorin Ashton, better known by his stage name Bassnectar, is a freeform electronic music artist and producer based in San Francisco, California. He is best known for his live performances, light shows and community engagement.

Bassnectar

Bassnectar was originally influenced by rock and grunge groups such as Metallica, Megadeth and Nirvana, bringing these influences with him into his own musical career. He released album after album, while pioneering creative approaches to electronica and house music, along with his exceptional style of dubstep.

The title of Lorin's lastest release is Vava Voom. The album explores new sounds but still highlights Bassnectar’s creative spontaneity, resulting in an intensely energetic album, which has its tiny handicaps as well. Here is a link to his website.

The title track of Vava Voom features Lupe Fiasco, which in my opinion wasn't a well timed move. Let's note that old school Lupe was my childhood's favourite artist. Sadly, he gave up too much of his best virtues for fame. There are some great rapping on this track, however, after a few seconds the beats are getting a little monotonous and boring, just like in Ugly. Between the two mentioned hides an interesting song caught somewhere between chillout and aggressive dubstep. Its addictively fine female voices are perfectly synchronized with the rest of the track. Empathy is a hypnotic, refreshing part of the album.

Ping Pong features very innovative and imaginative samples, the sound of a table tennis match. Its genius is in its simplicity, and it’s really nice to hear some of these strange hollow noises that don’t come out of a synthesizer easily. These noises quickly transform to an escalating bass-heavy audio affair. After the encouraging starting of What, the track falls into the same trap as Vava Voom and Ugly, but climbs out of it. Reggae influenced vocals, screeching, bassy halftime sections and brief snatches do their work. Pennywise Tribute is a straightforward tribute to the rock music that Bassnectar is clearly influenced by. A song that refuses to stop your feet from moving. Butterfly has a slow, booming bass, it's technically dubstep, but actually more atmosphere generating than anything. Mimi Page's stunning vocals give me an undefinable, sensational feeling. She's one of my personal favourites. Nothing Has Been Broken is very similar, it evokes a feeling of relaxation, mixed in with a dash of dance. Bassnectar has a particular talent for sculpting basslines that lift a song from the ground-up instead of simply weighing it down. Vava Voom was a two-faced album for me, which had a lot of unique traits and specialties, but a recurring, boring effect too. Still, Lorin brings creativity and musicality to bass.

Maribou State

Maribou State is my brand new favourite artist from London. They're a youthful trio comprising of Liam Ivory, Chris Davids and Josh Donald. Their music is atmospheric and chilling with wonderful dancefloor undertones.

Maribou State

Coming from a live background and trying to shrug it off has certainly influenced their sound, certain songwriting traits such as melody and structure emerge constantly. The remnants of this have made for a vibrant sound, rich in brooding atmospherics. They're already receiving support from Kastle at Symbols Recordings.

Maribou State's remixes like Can't Explain, Reasons, Blue Jeans and I Need You twist the vocals into a soundscape that conjures daydreams and caused me to not get hardly anything productive done today. But it was worth it. It was a huge dilemma, choosing the regular 3 tracks from their Soundcloud for you, because there's such a huge amount of fantastic stuff out there. No doubt that I became an addict.

Cryptex

Hailing from Los Angeles, Tyler Chase is making more than just hell of massive bass drops. Cryptex is a teenager glitch producer, whose dense rhythms and evocative electronic music have earned wide acclaim and dedicated followers in a remarkably brief period of time.

The son of two radio industry professionals, Cryptex grew up listening to hiphop, and discovered glitch hop after moving to Los Angeles. He was drawn to the genre’s unlimited potential to express emotion and relay a story, especially the unique, post-digital edginess of glitch music. After listening to everything he could find, he began producing his own remixes and original songs. He realised soon, there was no turning back from this. The world of electronic music absorbed him.

Cryptex

With strong influences from The Glitch Mob, Emancipator and Bassnectar, Tyler is captivated by the endless variety of sounds that can be created. It’s a truly limitless palette, where he can turn the familiar into the unknown and transform the unwanted into the irresistible.

Combined with an amazing rhythmic complexity, Cryptex never fails to be surprising and exhilarating. His reglitches are fulfilling my daily dose of awesomeness. You can get further information about him on this website. Also, don't miss out on his new release, Isolated Incidents. This stuff is serious, I mean really. Absolutely great future ahead this kid.

Stanton Warriors

Dominic Butler and Mark Yardley decided long ago to form the famous breakbeat duo called Stanton Warriors. Originally from Bristol, the pair now play sets at nightclubs in the UK and travel the globe with international work in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. Their name was taken from a hexagonal shaped manhole cover, made by Stanton Ironworks. It seemed fitting with their style of underground, cutting edge music.

Stanton Warriors

They are famed for incorporating exclusive original tracks mixed with homemade edits of cutting edge sounds from underground house through to abstract hiphop. It’s all blended into a melting pot of booty electro, and is continually reminding the world why Stanton Warriors have remained unrivalled in their genre for more than a decade.

This very danceable track is from their latest release, The Warriors. The unknown female voice in the live performance belongs to Ruby Goe. According to the tradition, here is the duo's website.

Mosis: Moving

Mosis really dazzled me with this song. It has deep synths paired with constricted, sensual vocal shifts. Can't get tired of it.
